The Information Technology Act, 2000 along with the rules and regulations serves as the primary law for matters related to cybercrime and electronic e-commerce aimed to provide legal recognition to electronic transactions, digital governance and address cyber threats. The state of art legislation provided recognition to electronic records, digital signatures and also addresses issues of offensive messages, interception and cyber-terrorism.

The Artificial Intelligence (AI) has introduced challenges and dilemmas like never before including legal challenges. While the legal literature is being debated worldwide, and the same is true for India. As there are no specific laws governing AI, the specific provisions of the Information Technology Act, 2000 governs specific processes maybe undertaken by the AIs. Further, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has constituted committees to promote AI initiatives and develop policy framework by focusing on platforms, data and ethical aspects of AI.
